There is a mountain in the Helambu Hills that the locals do not merely admire—they love. They call her Ama Yangri, the Mother. Rising to 3,771 meters in the Sindhupalchowk district, she is the highest peak closest to the Kathmandu Valley and one of Nepal's most rewarding short escapes. Not so long ago, Ama Yangri was a well-kept secret, known mainly to local pilgrims and a handful of curious wanderers. Today, it has found a growing following among domestic tourists and first-time trekkers who appreciate that it is barely 80–90 km from Kathmandu, demands little to no prior trekking experience, and rewards every step with something genuinely beautiful. It is unconventional in spirit, even as word continues to spread.

The name itself tells the story: in the language of the Hyolmo people—the region's indigenous community of Tibetan origin—Ama means "mother," and Yangri carries the sense of prosperity and blessing. She is the guardian deity of the entire Helambu Valley, a presence that shapes daily life here, from the incense lit at dawn to the prayers offered before a journey.

From the summit, a full 360-degree panorama unfolds—Mt. Everest, Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, Dorje Lakpa, Annapurna, and Manaslu—a view that locals compare to Poon Hill in the Annapurna region, with fewer crowds. A Buddhist chorten draped in prayer flags marks the top, and the sacred atmosphere makes the summit feel less like an achievement and more like an arrival.

Along the way, you pass through communities of Hyolmo, Tamang, Sherpa, and Chhetri people who have shared these hills for centuries. Ancient monasteries anchor every village; mani stones line every trail. And the countryside—amber terraced fields in autumn, snow-dusted ridges in winter, and rhododendron forests blazing in spring—changes beautifully with every season between September and March.

This 2-day package is designed for anyone who wants a real Himalayan experience from the capital city of Kathmandu, with convenient internet access and transport. In case of any emergency, you can reach the centre of the city within a few hours' drive from the Ama Yangri Base Camp by jeep or motorbike.
